Archaeological Museum of Eretria

Really nice if you are a museum type.
Small one, but it has interested things to see concerning the ancient history of Eretria

We enjoyed the exhibition in this museum. It’s very small, only two rooms and some outdoor sites, but very informative and interesting. All information on the displays is written in Greek and French though, no English.

À wonderful museum. Small but very interested. You can admire Athens Panatheneua amphorae. Also, next to the archeological site and Eretria’s ancient theater, build in an artificial hill, it’s famous for the acoustic.

Compared to the breadth of archaeology available to see in Greece the museum at Eretria has very little. But the entry fee is only 2 Euros and you can easily spend an hour here examining the small number of finds displayed. So, a small museum but worth a visit especially since there is a small archaeological site right across the street to explore.

The Archaeological Museum of Eretria is very easy to find, along the road running past Eretria, a lot of parking space. Very good for getting acquainted with local history. Strangely, captions in Greek and French only, no English. EU language policy after Brexit?

The museum is only two rooms but they are filled with treasures - many very old - from all over Greece - not just from Evia. The exhibit is a combined effort of the Swiss and Greeks, thus the notations are in Greek and French. No English. However, there is an excellent guide book available for 6 Euros and is well worth the purchase. The collection is quite extraordinary and is right across the road from the actual archaeological site. It really makes a very nice visit and is well worth the effort. The museum closed at 3PM the Sunday I was there but the site was open all day. Additionally, there is a ferry that runs every half hour from Eretria to the mainland so it is very convenient to get to. I shall go again!
