Gevsis sta Lenika, Ellinika

We are so pleased to have found Gefsis sta Lenika! It is a lovely little taverna at the beginning of the village Ellinika. It sits close to the road connecting Elounda and Agios Nikolaos, overlooking the beautiful Mirabello Bay. Run by a great family you can sit here, enjoy the view with a beer and a few small plates, the wine is also good by the carafe. There is a good menu if you are looking for something more, try the local sausage which is very delicious and great value, as are the souvlaki and the mixed meat plate for 2 people fabulous, you will not leave hungry! Nicos is a great chef, we have eaten here a lot over the last year and without fail it has been delicious!!

We ate here three times while in Ellinika. A family run business who obviously pride themselves on the quality of the food and their amazing hospitality too! We always found ourselves ordering far too much because it was just TOO good! The menu is great for children too and very good value. And be prepared drink a shot or three of ouzo with the chef! They always made us feel very welcome and couldn’t have been nicer to our daughters too. Highly recommended indeed.

Very good, inexpensive, nice staff that speaks some english. Food was excellent. Locals people also eat at this place.

After visiting Plaka, we (family of 5) were looking for a place to eat on our way back. We already set down in a fancy restaurant in Plaka, but it seems like a tourist trap so we decided to keep looking. It was from heaven, when i saw a small local restaurant just by the side of the main road. I was not sure but the kids were hungry and i saw only local folks dinning and usually that is a good sign. We ordered beef stake for my older boy, 2 hamburgers for the girls, and my wife and i ordered grilled sardines, fried zukini and a Greek salad. The restaurant is operated by a small family, The father is grilling, the mother does the other cooking and the boy serves to the table. We fell in love with them, the service was warm and kind, they showed us a wonderful hospitality and when we had to leaves we hugged all of them back with such a gratitude for their love and affection. All the meats were fresh, and served in a very large portion and with incredible taste. The father really knows his way with meats. The burgers came 2 in a dish and with a wonderful juiciness accompanied with a touch of mint. The salads were fresh with a big block of Greek cheese. But the sardines - 15 sardines grilled on fire then served in butter and oregano. It was superb. What should end up much higher - the total was under 50 euro! One of the best spots in eastern Crete.
