Gialos kardamili -Restaurant - kafe

I have visited Gialos, a lovely seaside taverna in Kardamyli, many times in the past. I have found it one of the better tavernas in Greece, a country I have been visiting regularly since 1973. But with the pandemic and all the stresses that puts on restaurants, I was not at all sure what I would find returning after a two-year absence. I am happy to say that Gialos is better than ever. It serves traditional home-style cooking, the basis of all good tavernas in Greece. And somehow the food is better than before. My wife and I have eaten there quite a few times on this trip and we are impressed by the consistency of the meals (always an issue with even the best tavernas). Of particular note are the briam, the stuffed tomatoes and peppers, all the dips (eggplant salad, taramasalata). The grilled meats are wonderful and the house wine is great. The service is friendly and efficient. All this goes with a quintessentially Mediterranean setting, beach, sea, and the mountains behind you.

my husband said this was the best meal of the two week holiday. Real homecooking by the owner’s mum. Her beef in lemon sauce, cheese pie, dips and baklava are all amazing. It’s a lovely setting by a pebble beach and sunloungers are available. Service was excellent and very friendly from Yorgos the owner and his waiters. We went back again as it was so good. Very good value and house white wine was very drinkable

We visited twice during our stay in Kardemilli and both times ordered the Mousaaka as it was so gorgeous. Fantastic waiter service and they are very friendly and welcoming. We wish it had been nearer our apartment as we would have visited even more. Thank you for making us feel so welcome in your lovely taverna.

Excellent service and delicious food in a perfect setting. Stunning position on the beach. Friendly and helpful staff. Excellent choice of delicious traditional dishes and super fresh fish. Highly recommended!

Had lunch and dinner here - on tap Local Nemea beer, great salads and lunches, dinner tasty. Very friendly staff. Is a brilliant location- can bob between beach and bar all day!

We ate here one evening based on the excellent reviews and were not disappointed. Although it was quiet that evening we liked the atmosphere and the location next to the sea was lovely. Service was friendly and professional and all the dishes we ordered were very good. We’ll definitely visit again when we’re next in Kardamili.

As regular visitors to Kardamyli, we are never let down with Gialos. We stayed in Kardamyli for 3 weeks in August for our wedding & visited Gialos regularly for both lunch & dinner. The restaurant has become a firm favourite for our family over the last 10 years. We are always so pleased with the food and service from George and the other staff - they couldn’t be anymore welcoming & accommodating. We’ve eaten here as a family and as large parties of 30/40 and never been disappointed. George even took a trip specially to Kalamata for us to purchase champagne for our party as we had requested, at short notice. The food is always super tasty & consistent. The portions are super generous. Thank you so much to everyone for looking after us so well, see you soon!

Fantastic for families such as ours. We had over 12 people in our party and the service was prompt and friendly. Food was authentic Greek and really good for children also. Cannot fault the service. You will find in most resteraunts in Kardamyli they take time a little. Here not so. They couldn’t make our visit any more great. The location also was very picturesque, right on the stoney beach front. So could pop in for a dip right after a spot of lunch. Would highly recommended ????

We ate here on numerous occasions between 1st and 15th of August. We have been coming to Greece (both the islands and bigger cities) for almost 40 years, and the quality and consistency of the dishes is up there with the best, and the location is fantastic for both lunch and supper, with constant sea-breeze and plenty of shade. On our most relaxed days, we started our morning on Gialos sunbeds (on the beach) where Maria served us fresh orange juice and coffee, and crossed the little road to the taverna for lunch. Both the quality and the value of the dishes was excellent. A fresh Greek salad, fried gavros (or one of the simple oven dishes), tsatsiki and half a litre of decent house wine was never more than around 22 euros. We took guests there in the evening who also enjoyed their experience. Giorgos’s mother does all the cooking and everything is super-fresh, and the table service from Giorgos, Maria, Cleanthis and Spiros was universally welcoming and efficient.We wish we were there right now!
