Cool Stuff And Helpful Staff
I’m a geek for small, hidden museums anywhere I go. I stumbled on this one and really enjoyed it. As with most small nonprofits the staff were incredibly helpful and knowledgable. The woman working there answered all my questions and gave me lots of information about the museum and the town.
I spent a very pleasant half hour looking at the models of ships, portraits of ancient, moustachioed Greeks, displays of knots and general esoterica that makes small museums so charming. I highly recommend it!

A hidden gem
We arrived 10 minutes before closing time and we were still allowed in, for as long as we wished to stay.
Nice museum about the maritime history of Oia.
It had a temporary exhibition of old nautical maps, under the title :
“Santorini and the Ottoman Nautical Cartography”
All maps labeled with detailed explanations in English.
Most impressive, the still functioning Second World War submarine periscope!
The building itself is a beautiful sea-captain’s mansion, nicely restored and perfectly converted into a museum.
Really worth a visit !

Super little museum
Lovely little museum in Oia. Has models of all types of boats, boat building tools, photos, and when we went there was an exhibition of old maps in the courtyard. Also a working periscope! Highly recommended for anyone interested in the sea.

CLOSED IN WINTER
We stopped by Oia on December 11 and wanted to visit the Museum. Websites said open daily 10 –14 and 17-20, closed Tuesdays. So, we showed up at 1030 and the gate was locked. We could only observe the displays in the courtyard through the fence. Websites need updated
