Unique experience in the high altitude part of the Cretan landscape
In the central and highest mountain of Crete, Psiloritis, Skinakas Observatory has been settled more than thirty years ago, and is named after the placename of the peak. In the 1990s the installation was expanded.
Visiting Skinakas Observatory is a really amazing experience, the mountainous landscape is impressive. Moreover, each third Sunday from June to September the Observatory is open to the public in the evenings.
Be aware: being on a peak of 1750 meters elevation, exposed to winds, the temperature is lower than the plain areas, and also, the road near the Observatory is narrow and damaged in some parts.
