Good greek food at a sensible price

This restaurant has a very central location in Karpenisi. There is indoor and (at least when we visited, in September) outdoor dining. The indoor dining room is spacious and the walls are hung with interesting Greek artefacts from former times. The menu is extensive enough that you won’t get bored even after several return visits (though at quiet times of year items from the charcoal grill may only be available at weekends). We made 8 visits during our stay in Karpenisi. The food is basic greek food: good, but not over-decorated. Service is attentive, and if you can understand Greek you can expect helpful hints from the staff. (I was warned that the meat in a particular dish might be tough. It was indeed slightly tough, but still very good.) Staff are not fluent in English, but can understand the basics.

The place is great. They make very delicious food. You should definitely try it. Don't miss it out. It's very well placed in a good location.

Live music Saturdays

Live music along with wonderful tastes from the Greek cuisine. You should try paidaki, colorful fresh salads and beer.

Underated

One of the problems with Tripadvisor is that once a restaurant gets a good rating, everyone goes and reinforces the expressed view. We havw been quite disappointed with the high ranking restaurants of Karpenisi. We stumbled upon Taberna H Folia and were delighted with the food we ordered. This is a traditional Taverna. And the food is also traditional. Rather than order from the menu, we asked what they suggested. We were served a Lamb Kokoresti (rotisseried lamb portions) and Greek salad. We came away satisfied with the portion size, the flavour and the (lowish) price. Friendly, helpful staff were an added bonus. Highly recommend.

Hidden gem

I am from Athens and travelled to Northern Greece for a couple of days to get away from the heat of the south. We arrived in Karpenisi and our first lunchtime taverna, that I will not mentioned, was pretty blah. So, for the evening meal, we ventured into the town close to the square. We discovered a little taverna hidden in the back of the main street, and decided to give it a go. The food was very good! We ordered some lamb which was soft and well cooked, with home made fries, Greek salad and tzatziki. When you’ve been to as many tavernas as I have, it’s the details that count - such as the toasted bread and their excellent choice of feta cheese. The service was ok, with a homestyle service. It’s low season for this ski town, but the service food was fresh and local. Highly recommend.
