Perfect lunch! Locally sourced ingredients, fresh food and excellent service

The only taverna we could find in the hamlet of Karya after a beautiful autumnal walk from Tinos. This family run restaurant grows many of their ingredients on site (olives, tomatoes, peppers, apricots to name a few), we had a lovely Greek salad, local Tinian sausage and kalimari. All dishes were spot on, squid was freshly caught and sausages seasoned with wild fennel. Reasonably priced and owner was lovely, she even gave us a complimentary dessert of Greek yoghurt and homemade apricot conserve. One of the most memorable lunches we’ve ever had in Greece. A must go if you’re in the area and have transport or on a walk to the mountain peak.

If you looking for typical Tinian restaurant a restaurant that is family oriented that serves you what is locally grown quite a few of his ingredients come from his own Farm great family super nice people really enjoyed their food guaranteed we will go back

Family food all produced onsite

If you want Tinos food, and let’s face it you’re on Tinos so unlikely to want a curry then this the place. It’s peaceful, on the very top of a hill, looks down the valley and the food is lovely. It’s a family place and the owner Vangelli rears all his own livestock so from field to plate it’s a short journey and no processed stuff in evidence. I’ve eaten here several times - I recommend the pork meat balls in tomato sauce and also the delicious liver, goat is pretty good too. No-one stands on ceremony here, it’s an informal place with a warm welcome - the place to idle over your meal with nobody hovering to take your table. Sit on the terrace, enjoy your wine and wait for Ionna to tell you what’s good that night, all the time looking over the beautiful scenery. Great if you’re dining alone and great for a party. This is a special place, eat here!

Real taste

I have been visiting Karya tavern for years now (to be precise, since 2000). If you want to taste real food, with real taste (vegetables and meat the owner grows himself - as nowadays we call them organic), this tavern needs to be in your "to visit" list.

Looking for homely, cosy family-run spot? The righ place for you

Amazingly well prepared local dishes. Try the okra dish, the salads are a must. Frutalia also. The loukanika are amazing. The view was spectacular. I can’t call it a taverna. It was more the cosy feeling of a friendly neighbour who has a veranda with a panoramic view and invites you over for a home made meal.

fantastic food in the hills all produce from the owners’ garden including the lamb, the olive oil, the delicious horta

Don’t miss this taverna up in the hills above Tinos town, circa 15 minute drive. Very reasonable and amazing quality food. All the produce including the olive oil, vegetables, lamb and chicken come from the owners’ land, they are a delightful couple in their mid 30s and the Mum is an AMAZING cook. They have a wonderful attitude, the food is cooked up there and then, and it is just delicious. Go up the main road from Tinos town and take a right towards Tripotamos and Karia. The taverna is situated above the main road, you will not regret your visit. We had a portion of fried aubergines, a greek salad, horta, chicken chop on the grill, , lamb chops on the grill and it was plenty for 3 and very reasonable!
